The Score Sheet: State golf, NFV’s Hovden picks up 700th win and other scores

Despite some rough weather over the last couple of days some sports were played.

In Ames at the state golf meet day one was called due to rain, with most groups having one or two holes to play.  Golfing resumes this morning after 8.  The New Hampton Chickasaws are currently in first.

The fourth-ranked Charles City Comet Softball team make quick work of the Go-Hawks.

 

The Nashua-Plainfield softball team picked up a 13-8 win over Eagle Grove.  The Huskies are 1-1.

Sumner-Fredericksburg picked up two wins via blowouts last night.  The Cougars swept Hudson 7-2 and 15-3.  Sumner-Fred is 3-1.

In Baseball Charles City picked up their third consecutive win last night upending Crestwood 6-1.  The Coments fell behind 1-0 after the first but rebounded in the fourth and fifth, each posting three runs.  The Comets are 3-2.

New Hampton is now 5-0 after thumping Waukon 8-2.  Mason Cleveland got the win on the mound.

Nashua-Plainfield is 2-1 after exploding for a 15-0 win over Eagle Grove.  It’s the Huskies second time in as many games where their bats have plated double-digit runs. Austin Bienemann racked up four RBIs. M ax Hillegas registered three.

St. Ansgar thumped North Butler 9-0 dropping the Bearcats to 2-2.

Turkey Valley is still winless after getting swept by South Winneshiek. The Warrior’s poured on the runs, winning 12-1 and 12-0.  The Trojans are 0-6.  South Winn improves to 4-2.

North Fayette Valley picked up two wins with the second at 11-0 win dropping Postville.  Head Coach Dan Hovden picked up his 700th career win during game one of the double header.  He’s the 22nd coach in Iowa High School Baseball history to do so.
