The Score Sheet: Boys and girls golf results, ISU adds Troy transfer and Butler transitioning to NFL

The New Hampton girl’s golf team highlights the area golfers winning their first round regionals  at Jesup.  The Chickasaws scored a 325.  Sumner-Frederisksburg also advanced to the regional final placing second.

New Hampton’s Allison Nuss shot a 77, Shea Rhea of Sumner-Fred clocked in at 85.  Emma Ewert and Morgan Nuss were third and fourth.

In Class 1A, North Butler finished fourth behind St. Ansgar by seven shots as the Saints qualified for the regional final.  Rockford finished eighth.

Rainy Kock of North Butler finished second with a 93, one shot off first place.  Bearcat Meg Thompson and Abby Murray of Rockford finished third and fifth.

South Winneshiek and Turkey Valley finished fourth and fifth, just one and two spots out of qualifying for regional finals.  Nashua-Plainfield came in seventh.

Charles City and New Hampton boys golf competed at the NEIC conference meet Monday in Waukon.

The Comets snatched third place shooting 332, New Hampton came in fourth with a 343.  Waverly-Shell Rock won the conference shooting 314.

Iowa State has signed Troy University transfer Javan Johnson.

Former Iowa State receiver Hakeem Butler says he is looking to find a role in former Texas Tech coach Kliff Kingsbury’s offense with the Arizona Cardinals.

Butler took part in rookie mini-camp after being selected by the Cardinals in the fourth round of the NFL Draft.

 

Butler says making the transition to the pro game is a new challenge.

 

Butler says he is looking forward to learning the ropes from Cardinal standout receiver Larry Fitzgerald.
