Charles City amending budget despite lower expenditures

Unexpected transit service and rough winter have cost more than expected but won't raise taxes

Charles City, Iowa – Despite lower expenses for Charles City as a whole, some areas have gone over budget causing the need for a budget amendment.

City Clerk Trudy O’Donnell says capital projects, public safety and works along with snow removal are the culprits.

According to the city budget, total expenditures are down three million dollars, while the public works increased nearly $130,000 and $300,000 for capital projects.

City officials say the amendment will not raise tax levies.

A public hearing has been set for May 20.
