The state’s top track and field athletes were at the Drake Relays over the weekend. New Hampton’s Noah Fenske, took the top spot in the boy’s shot put and third in discuss. Rachel Rinken placed 22 in the long jump.
Osage’s 4 x 100 meter girls relay came in 91st. Paige Kissley came in 29th in the first round of the 100 meter relay.
Sumner-Fredericksburg’s Megan Niewoehner placed fifth and Jenna Pagel seventh in the girls’ discuss throw.
Riceville’s Abby Mar took 23rd in the shot put final.
The Iowa Hawkeye baseball team was limited to six hits in a 5-1 loss at Ohio State as the Buckeyes avoided a three game sweep of their Big Ten series. It was Iowa’s fifth straight series win in conference play.

The Hawkeyes lone run was scored in the seventh inning after the Buckeyes had built a 5-0 advantage.
At 11-7 the Hawkeyes are alone in fourth in the league race.
Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says several new players will need to step up between now and the start of fall camp. The Hawkeyes had four players taken in the NFL Draft and all four could have returned for next season.
Ferentz likes the potential.
