Jacobs, Heyer highlight volunteer awards at recognition breakfast

Charles City, Iowa – People, who work behind the scenes, may not like the spotlight, but Friday morning the individuals who make Charles City organizations tick were recognized.
Nineteen awards highlighted residents who volunteer their time and talents at the Community Volunteer Recognition Awards Ceremony hosted by Community Revitalization and the Chamber of Commerce.
Charles City’s Woman of the year is retired teacher Susan Jacob. She was recognized for several deeds including her activism at Trinity United Methodist Church, contributions to education Haiti and the Carrie Lane Chapman House.
The man of the year recognized Jeremy Heyer for his dedication to the Lyon’s Club, St. John’s Lutheran Church, missions trips, the Boys Scouts and Charles City Softball.
The speechless Heyer says volunteerism is something he was raised on.
