Uptick in counterfeit currency prompts warning from Charles City Police Department

Authorities in Charles City are warning the public about the use of counterfeit currency circulation around the area.

According the Charles City Police Department, the bills look real, but are stamped with Chinese symbols and don’t include built-in security features. Most of the counterfeit bills have been in denominations of 20-dollars and 100 dollars.

The Police Department is urging businesses to use a money check pen and educate staff to look for security features.
