Trained weather spotter training to be held for Floyd, Mitchell Counties

Osage, Iowa – Being able to stay weather aware during severe weather season is key according to meteorologist Dave Lawrence with the National Weather Service.

One way is to become a trained weather spotter.

The National Weather Service, in partnership with the Chickasaw Emergency Management is holding a SKWYWARN spotter training Thursday night  at 6:30 pm at Mitchell County Conservation.

Lawrence says it’s not a science oriented class because they’re teaching basic meteorology.

The two hour class is free and is interactive with videos and questions.     After completing the class, you will be at rained weather spotter.

Trained weather spotters don’t have to be in the field to collect data. You can do it from your home, work or commute.

Lawrence says real-time information provides the best information to everyone
