Charles City, Iowa – Floyd County residents can expect to see property value increases when they open their 2019 assessment in the mail.
Floyd County Assessor Gary Vanderwerf says the market drives assessments.
Country resident’s valuations could increase 9 percent and towns would be up six percent but the exact percentage of change varies on individual properties because of its characteristics.
The increase is needed to maintain a ratio within 95 to 105 percent of total sales which set by the state. 2019 assessed values came in at just over 90 percent. The numbers are averaged from sales in the last year.
Vanderwerf tells North Iowa News it’s hard to determine how this affects owners long term.
Agriculture land and building values will drop 28 percent which matches the state average. There were no changes to the class of multi-residential properties.
He adds if you’re unhappy with your valuations, you can speak directly with his office and submit your complaint for review.
The review board will then make their determination. Rolls will be mailed on or before April 1st.
