Rain, warmer temperatures causing area-wide traveling issues

Charles City, Iowa – The rain and warmer temperatures have prompted travel advisories from three of Iowa’s Northeast counties.

Floyd and Chickasaw County officials are asking residents who have heavy equipment and large vehicles to avoid gravel roads until conditions improve. Drivers of all vehicles should use extreme caution when on gravel roads as conditions are rapidly deteriorating, making travel hazardous in many areas.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s Office says county roads are impassable for 2-wheel drive and small vehicles.  You should consider alternate routes or an alternate vehicle if you must drive on gravel roads.

Several school districts are running hard surface routes until further notice.
