Frascht snags top Iowa FFA honor for devotion to cattle operation

Charles City, Iowa -Some of us may think leaving room for error isn’t a smart business approach.

Charles City FFA Senior Blake Frascht would disagree with you.  He says that’s the biggest key in running his livestock operation.

Frascht has 500 head of beef feeder cattle as part of his supervised agriculture experience.

His SAE won the top beef proficiency in the state.

The award is given to a FFA member who owns a cattle enterprise using the best management practices to efficiently produce market beef.

He said he was shocked and thrilled when he won the state’s top prize.

His application rose to the top because of animal management and budgeting.

Frascht says he’s being efficient fiscally and with his time is by using technology.

He adds his favorite part of his work is feeding, bedding and managing the herd.

He owns 5 percent of the cattle with plans to take over 50 percent.

Frascht’s love and passion is evident.  He says his plans are to continue to work with his herd after graduation.

Sometimes the best way to learn is doing it yourself.
