The Score Sheet: Comets aim for state tournament bid after win, Rockford falls

The Charles City Comets will have a chance to break a 63 year curse on Monday night after they upended Webster City Thursday night.

Erik Hoefer had the call and has the report.

 

The Janesville Wildcats outran the Rockford Warriors last night 75-45.  Janesville jumped out to a 14-2 lead, but the Warriors slowly chipped away.

 

Unfortunately for the Warriors, Janesvill stole momentum going into the second frame after two late-quarter baskets.

 

Jake Staudt paced the Warriors with 15 and Max Rooney netted 13.   Codey Hicks scored a game-high 23 points and Caden Conrad bagged 22.  Rockford finishes the season at 17-6.  Janesville advances to Saturday’s substate round against Algona-Bishop Garrigan.

The 10th ranked Iowa Hawkeye women were knocked out of first place in the Big Ten race.

The Iowa Hawkeyes try to bounce back from a loss to Maryland on Friday night when they host Indiana. The Hawks are 9-6 in the Big Ten after a 66-65 loss to the Terrapins, the third straight game that came down to the final possession.

 

That’s Iowa coach Fran McCaffery who expects a tough test from a Hoosier squad that is 4-11 in the league race after a two point loss to Purdue.
