Charles City, Iowa – Collaborative, cutting edge and efficient are three of the many words you could use to describe one of Iowa Big North’s initiatives.
Charles City Senior Harley Wilson is one of the founders of ‘co-prop.’ She says the idea streamlines finding costumes and props for all of the schools in Iowa Big North, which is becoming an on-going issue.
What’s been coined as the ‘dungeon’ in the North Grand Building houses several closets of costumes and props. The students estimate there are thousands of items down there.
The choir and drama department approached the group wanting an efficient way to access items.
Wislon says they’ve created a solution to an on-going problem.
The project doesn’t stop there. After moving the items to the Carrie Lane space, Ashley Williams of Turkey Valley, Shelbie McKimmy from Riceville and Sadie Arickx of RRMR are helping design a website.
Charles City Senior Jacie Wank says it will allow schools within Iowa Big North to find what they need and where to find it.
Co-props started at the beginning of the year and will continue until no one is left to lead the initiative.
Wank tells North Iowa News there’s no competition between the students from different schools because everyone is trying to lend a helping hand.
