The Score Sheet: State Wrestling results, area postseason basketball wrap ups and state bowling

State Wrestling 

Area schools sent 13 wrestlers to the 2019 State Wrestling tournament and seven are bringing home the hardware.  KCHA and KCZE provided three-days worth of state wrestling coverage.

New Hampton-Turkey Valley’s Evan Rosonke took home 6th, Max Babcock finished 7th and Mason Cleveland is a fifth place finisher.

Area basketball teams competed to continue their season.

New Hampotn 55, Aplington-Parkersburg 54

The Cardiac Chickasaws did it again! The New Hampton boys basketball team held off Aplington-Parkersburg 55-54 to make it to the district final against Crestwood.  New Hampton trailed by 10 at the break and then outscored A-P 23-9 in the final frame for the win.  Tristan Sweitzer scored 25.

Clarksville 54, Bishop Garrigan 35

The Clarksville Indians made school history Friday night.  They’ve advanced to their first regional final after they defeated Bishop Garrigan 54-35.  Emma Poppe bagged 10 and Chloe Ross had 15.  Head Coach Ross Timmermons says his team is a third quarter team after holding a slight lead in both post season games.

 

The Indians advance to face North Butler who’s come-from-behind win catapulted them into the regional final.

Timmermons says tonight’s game is special.

 

Other scores:

The North Butler Bearcats are in after they dropped Kee High 49-37.  The Bearcats trailed by 15.  Kristen Dralle scored 14 and Emy Osterbuhr collected 12.

It’s Clarksville and North Butler in the 1A Region 2 Finale.

Osage’s season has come to its close.  The Crestwood Cadets topped the Green Devils 53-49.  It’s the second straight year Osage is out of the state tournament with two losses or less.

In boys postseason basketball,

Rockford advances to their district semifinal after beating Riceville 66-43.  Matt Muller bagged 19 and Kaden Lyman had 16.  The Warriors face Turkey Valley tomorrow.

Nashua-Plainfield lost to end their season by four to Turkey Valley.  The Huskies 46-42 setback ends their season at 9-11

Saint Ansgar moved on to the district semifinals after blowing out Tripoli 60-41.  Ethan Kirchgatter bagged 16.

Charles City Bowling

The Charles City girls and boys bowling teams are in Waterloo at the state meet today.  Bowing gets underway at 11:30.

Maddi Ross says her team will be ready.

 

Comet Coach Doug Bohlen says the Comets have gone to state five straight years.

 

College basketball

The Big Ten women’s race is tied.

 

Rob Brooks on the Hawkeye Network. Iowa closed the game on a 9-0 run as the 13th ranked Hawkeyes pulled away from an 86-73 win over seventh ranked Maryland. Both teams are 12-3 in the league race.

Megan Gustafson finished with 31 points and 17 rebounds and much of the damage was done in the second half.

 

The 21st ranked Iowa Hawkeye men recorded win number 20 with their second straight buzzer beater.

 

Gary Dolphin and Bobby Hansen on the Hawkeye Network. Joe Weiskamp  banked in as corner three pointer to beat the buzzer in a 71-69 win at Rutgers.
