New Hampton eighth graders present speeches for trip to nation’s capital

New Hampton, Iowa – After spending the last month to craft and perfect a speech based on the topic of social injustice, eight New Hampton 8th grade students presented in front of an audience Monday night inside the Middle School Auditorium.

The event was held in conjunction with the Ford’s Theater National Oratory Fellowship, with the caveat that the top scorers would be sent on a trip to Washington, D.C. later this year with their teacher, Jason Rude.

One of the top scorers was Lili Chatman who gave an oratory presentation on “Barbie’s Image.”

 

The other top scorer was Quinten Reicks, who presented “The Gift of Life.”

 

The scoring was decided on by a panel of three judges.

Other presentations where given by students Catherine Method, Ashley Rosonke, Elaina Rosonke, Annala Elliot, Isabel Willadsen and Kadence Zack.
