Charles City, Iowa – Heavy bands of snow continue to move across the area Friday afternoon.
Parts of the listening area have already received 2-3 inches of snowfall.
The National Weather Service is predicting five inches of accumulation throughout the afternoon and an additional 1-3 inches is possible over night.
Snow could accumulate as fast as one inch per-hour.
Road conditions are deteriorating rapidly across the area.
The Charles City Police Department’s Facebook page is encouraging slow or no travel at all this evening.
Snow began falling in parts of the listening area just after 9 a.m., three hours before the predicted beginning.
The area will see dangerously low temperatures and wind chill values over the weekend. Friday’s low will be 9 degrees and wind chill values will drop to -3. Saturday’s high is 12, with wind gusts approaching 20 mph causing wind chill values of -10.
