Mitchell County woman arrested after accusations of knife threats

Stacyville, Iowa – A Stacyville resident has been arrested for threatening a woman with a knife in Mitchell County.

According to the Mason City Globe Gazette, the incident occurred Wednesday morning at 7:45 when 25-year-old Rita Aurea Torres Vasquez picked up a large, black handled knife and threatened the woman after a fight.

Vasquez claims she did retrieve the knife from down stairs but did not threaten the woman with it.

Law enforcement found the knife and sheath hidden in a bathroom cupboard.

Vazquesz is charged with misdemeanor domestic abuse assault and is being held in the Mitchell County jail.
