Charles City, Iowa – Speeds reached over 100 miles per hour Tuesday night during a high speed chase from Cerro Gordo County to Floyd County.
According to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office, 20-year-old Leonard Lewis of Minneapolis was driving a stolen vehicle near mile marker 208 on Highway 27 just before 11 pm. The deputy locked Lewis’s speed at 100 mph and attempted to conduct a traffic stop and a high speed chase ensued.
Lewis lost control on Waterbury Road, went through a ditch and came to a stop in a field. Law enforcement apprehended the suspect.
An hour later, a citizen at the 1800 block of Cedar View Road reported a suspicious person knocking. Deputies responded and located a juvenile male who fled from the chase.
Lewis is charged with eluding, operating without owner’s consent, two counts of interference of official acts causing injury, speeding, and other traffic violations.
A Floyd County deputy and a Charles City Police officer both received minor injuries but were treated and released from the hospital.
CCDP and the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
