Decorah 35, Charles City 31
The first win of the season was on the line Friday night as the Charles City girls basketball team clashed with the Decorah Vikings.
Charles City helped build their eight-point third quarter cushion by some big minutes from Lydia Stuadt who had nine points including to threes.
Jodie Sindlinger led the Comets with 12 points. Charles City falls to 0-12.
Charles City 75, Decorah 71
The Charles City boys basketball team built a 14 point fourth-quarter lead and then a hot handed-Decorach team clawed their way back.
The Comets notched their sixth straight win by making enough free throws to win 75-71. Jackson Molstead collected 29, Marcus Cranshaw added 17. Charles City is 7-3. They host Independence tonight.
Waukon 44, New Hampton 29
New Hampton fell to Waukon 44-29 Friday night. Maddi Moorman paced the Chickasaws with 14.
Osage 54, Central Springs 11
Second-ranked Osage dropped Central Springs 54-11. Dan Johnson scored a game-high 16 points and Ellie Bobinet added 9. Osage is 12-0.
West Fork 56, Rockford 42
The Rockford Warriors had their two-game win streak snapped by West Fork. The Warriors lost 56-42. Amber Reams and Morgan Thieman each had 15. Rockford is 6-7.
Newman Catholic 62, North Butler 46
North Butler is 3-9 after losing to Newman Catholic 62-46. Kristen Dralle led with 11. Emy Osterbuhr and Molly Adelmund each added 10.
Saint Ansgar remains undefeated beating Central Springs 48-27.
Nashua-Plainfield lost to Northwood-Kensett 54-28
New Hampton 66, Waukon 40
New Hampton is 6-7 after blowing out Waukon 66-40. Tristan Sweizter had 22 and Drake Wemark added 16.
Osage 74, Central Springs 20
Jonah Bluhm scored 21 points and 10-3 Osage rolled to a 74-20 win over Central Springs. Thor Maaestad added 11. The Green Devils are at Saint Ansgar tomorrow.
Rockford 63, West Fork 56
The Rockford Warriors avenged their first lost of the season to West Fork. The Warriors won 63-56 in the rematch. Jake Staudt paced his team with 15. Jared Marth and Max Rooney both added 12. Rockford is 10-3.
Saint Ansgar 52, Riceville 30
Saint Ansgar beat Riceville 52-30 behind 20 points form Ethan Kirchgatter. The Saints are 8-4, Riceville drops to 1-11.
Nashua-Plainfield is 6-6 after dispatching Northwood-Kensett 52-25
Newman Catholic 83, North Butler 27
The Charles City Comet girls and boys bowling teams both took the top spot at the district baker team tournament at Cadillac lanes in Waterloo on Saturday. Friday, the Comets took on Waverly-Shell Rock. The Go-Hawks beat the Comets. Nathan Schultz- the top Comet bowler with a 355. The girls won beind a 418 from Madison Ross.
The Charles City Grapplers finished second at Decorah over the weekend. Dylan Koresh took the top spot. The Comets had four second placers.
The New Hampton/Turkey Valley Wrestling team took second at the Stewartville Invitational. Evan Rosonke and Mason Cleveland won first.
UNI: 57, Drake 54
Northern Iowa held Drake scoreless for the final five minutes and 40 seconds to hold on for a 57-54 win in Cedar Falls as the Bulldogs nearly rallied from an 11 point deficit. UNI’s Luke McDonnell deflected a lob pass to Drake’s Nick McGlynn in the waning seconds with the Panthers leading by one.
Wyatt Lohaus led the Panthers with 14 points as the improve to 2-2 in the Missouri Valley.
Kansas State upset #20 Iowa State 58-57. Nick Weiler-Babb led the Cyclones with 11.
The real winner from the weekend was Iowa. They improve to 14-3 and 3-3 in the Big Ten after upsetting #16 Ohio State 72-62 behind Luke Garza’s 16 points.
