Floyd County bucks statewide flu trend, numbers expected to change

Charles City, Iowa – With the continual drop in temperatures means a possible rise in flu cases.

But not in Floyd County.

Floyd County Public Health Administrator Gail Arjes says Iowa has had an increase in confirmed flu cases but it’s Floyd County is different so far this year.

According to the Iowa Influenza Surveillance Network, one person has died in Iowa from the flu.  The State Hygienic Laboratory has confirmed 31 flu-related cases in the state.

The most recent report released collected data until December 29.  It says Iowa’s flu activity is regional but not widespread and is minimal compared to other states.

Staying home when sick and getting a vaccination helps lower the risk of spreading the flu.

Arjes says flu and cold symptoms are similar and if you’re unsure about what to do, call your physician.

She says she expects flue cases to rise in the coming days and weeks.
