Police department receives animal safety technology for K9 Jordy

Charles City, Iowa – New law enforcement technology will be helping improve safety for the department’s ‘man’s best friend.’

The Charles City Police Department received a generous donation from Protection-4-Paws called the Handler Alert Package.

Chief Hugh Anderson

The system keeps the vehicle on until the handler removes the K9 from the vehicle.  When the handler turns off the ignition, there is an audible and visual warning reminding them to remove the K9.

Anderson says the technology will help avoid leaving the K9 inside the vehicle.

The system is worth $1300 and the police department is tasked with preparing the squad car for it. The department’s K-9, Jordy, has already been on the streets tracking down drugs.

Anderson says this has happened sooner than expected thanks to the public’s overwhelming support.
