New Hampton, Iowa – A former Alta Vista man convicted of murder in his infant son’s death is asking for a new trial.
Attorney’s for 29-year-old Zachary Paul Koehn aruge first-degree murder and child endangerment convictions weren’t backed by the evidence.
The defense attorneys argue the evidence presented like dehydration, malnutrition, a diaper rash infection and maggots, weren’t backed by evidence.
The attorney’s say the state introduced evidence for inaction rather than actions contributing to the infant’s death.
The infant’s mother is also charged, but a trial date hasn’t been set.
