NH/TV Downs Rivals In Wrestling Opener; Area Basketball Scores

Two-time defending state dual champion New Hampton/Turkey Valley started the 2018 season with a pair of wins in the Charles City Triangular Last night.  The Chickasaws took out rival Charles City 52-18 and then beat Clarion-Goldfield-Dows 45-29.

Max Babcock’s 5-4 decision over Charles city’s Carter Proffitt highlighted the Chickasaw win.  Charles City got wins from Alec Staudt, Rousch Jaeger, Elliott Sinwell and Dillion Koresh. Tayton Messler, Gavin Rings, Alex Kriener, Lance Reicks, Max Schwickerath, Evan Rosonke, Carter Reicks and Tom Clark all got wins over their Comet Competition.

In the Charles City match with Clarion Goldfield Dows Caden Collins highlighted the match with a 4-0 decision over Cael Ahrens.  Sinwell, Koresh, Jack Sindlinger, Staudt and Bronson Forsyth all picked up wins in the match.

In girls basketball from last night:
Rockford 53, Nashua-Plainfield 37

The Rockford Warriors outscored Nashua-Plainfield 26-10 in the second and third quarters to beat the Huskies 53-37 last night.  Amber Reams led Rockford with 17 points, including three-three’s in the game and Morgan Thieman added 11. Rockford is 1-1 and travels to West Fork Friday.  The Huskies have fallen to 0-2 and travel to Northwood-Kensett Friday.

Dike- New Harford 63, Sumner-Fredericksburg 50

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars are  1-2 on the season after a 63-50 loss to Dike-New Hartford last night.  The Cougars gave up 29 first-Quarter points and only scored four second-quarter points to fall behind by 22 points at the half.  The Cougars host Wapsie Valley Friday.

Turkey Valley 60, North Fayette Falley 53

The Turkey Valley Trojans picked up a win over North Fayette VAlley last night 60-53.  A 21-8 first quarter propelled the Trojans to victory as the Tiger-Hawks were outscored in both quarters in the second half.   Jordan Lukes led the Trojans with 14 points and Katlyn Baumler netted 12. North Fayette Valley hosts Crestwood Thursday and Turkey Valley hosts West Central Friday.

In boys basketball from last night:

Rockford 86, Nashua-Plainfield 54

The Rockford Warriors exploded for 86 points last night in an 86-54 beat down of Nashua-Plainfield last night.  The Warriors connected on eight three-pointers, three from Kaden Lymann. Jared Marth led Rockford with 19 points and Jake Staudt posted 14 points in the win.  Nashua-Plainfield trailed by four after the first quarter, but Rockford outscored the Huskies by 28 points the rest of the way. Rockford hosts West Fork Friday.  Nashua-Plainfield is at Northwood-Kensett Friday.

North Fayette Valley 54, Turkey Valley 41

The North Fayette Valley Tiger-Hawks started their season off with an impressive 54-41 over Turkey Valley.  Kole Johnson led the Tiger-Hawks with 18 points and Lance Butikofer added 15. North Fayette Valley is at Crestwood Thursday.  Ethan Leibold led Turkey Valley with 12 points. The Trojans host West Central Friday.
