UPDATED: Fire Alarms Sound At Washington Elementary

Charles City, Iowa – Wednesday, November 28th 1:30 pm: 

Charles City Fire Department Chief Eric Whipple tells us someone inside the school smelled a burning sensation.  Upon investigation, the fire department concluded the fire panel indicated an issue with the air handling system on the roof.  Maintenance is checking the equipment for issues. The fire department has determined the school is completely safe.

Wednesday, November 28th 12:41 pm: Fire alarms sounded at Washington Elementary School.

According to school administration, the source isn’t confirmed, but it’s believed smoke in the kitchen caused the alarm.

Students and staff were evacuated, all are reported safe and the all clear has been given.

Students are staff are allowed back into the building.
