Comets Drop Season Opener, Iowa/Nebraska Set To Clash On Black Friday

#2 Clear Lake 68, Charles City 18

The Charles City Comet Girls basketball squad began their season last night.

The Comets hosted second-ranked Clear Lake from Comet Gym, losing 68-18.  Charles City struggled hitting shots from the floor early on, only cashing in on one free throw from Olyvia Zuspan.  The Comets finally connected early in the second quarter thanks to an Ashlyn Hoeft layup.

Jodie Sindlinger led the Comets with five points and Sara Faber from Clear Lake led all scorers with 21.  Charles City hosts Aplington-Parkersburg next Thursday.

Iowa versus Nebraska, 11 AM (Friday)

-Kinnick Stadium, Iowa City

Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz says Scott Frost was a perfect fit for Nebraska. The Hawkeyes and Huskers close the regular season with a Black Friday contest in Kinnick Stadium.

Former Hawkeyes offensive lineman Eric Chinander is the defensive coordinator for Nebraska.

Ferentz says the Hawkeyes went to send a small group of 14 seniors out with a win in their final home game.

Ferentz says the Huskers have been a different team the second half of the season.

#25 Iowa State versus Kansas State, 6pm

Jack Trice Stadium, Ames

Iowa State can set a record for conference wins in a season when the Cyclones host Kansas State. ISU is 6-4 overall after a loss at Texas while K-State enters having won two straight.

That’s ISU coach Matt Campbell who says turnovers will be even more important  between two ball control offenses.

Brock Purdy will try to bounce back after tasting defeat for the first time as starting quarterback.

UNI versus Lamar, 4 pm

UNI Dome, Cedar Falls

Northern Iowa coach Mark Farley hopes experience is an advantage as the Panthers get set for the postseason. They host Lamar on Saturday in the opening round of the FCS playoffs.

For the Panther seniors this is their third appearance in the playoffs.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
