Three-Vehicle Crash Leads To Arrest And Grain Spillage on Road

Cresco, Iowa – One person is in the hospital and a load of corn spilled across the road way after a three-vehicle crash in Winneshiek County Tuesday afternoon.

The Winneshiek County Sheriff’s office says 76-year-old David Drtina pulled two-corn wagons and took a wide-right turn off of Pole Line Road when a international semi driven by 64-year-old Gerald Ferri of Cresco swerved to miss the tractor and wagons, clipped a culvert and spilled his load.

During the investigation on scene, 34-year-old Adam Strand drove through the road closure, around a fully lit sheriff’s vehicle, struck a deputy,  a deputy’s vehicle and then an emergency management vehicle. Both vehicles and the deputy sustained minor damages.

The sheriff’s office says Strand was under the influence and because of his level of intoxication was transported to Mayo Clinic in Rochester.  His condition is unknown at this time.
