Sumner-Fred Falls In Season Finale, Comet’s Comeback Spoiled

The Charles City Comets dropped their 24th game of the season last night to Waukon in four sets.  The lone comet victory – a first set runaway- helped by a 17-1 run. During the run, Jennifer Martin collected SIX aces.  The Comets went onto win 25-9. But Waukon answered with a 25-19 win in sets two and three. The Indians held a 22-17 advantage in the latter stages of set four and then Sami Heyer capped a 5-1 run on this kill:


But the Comets gave the next point away and fell 25-23.  Jodi Sidlinnger collected a game-high 13 kills, Heyer added eight. Charles City is 10-24, Waukon improves to 12-15-4.  Both teams meet this Saturday in the NEIC tournament in Decorah.

Waterloo Columbus Catholic 3, Sumner-Fredricksburg 0

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars fell in straight sets to end their 2018 regular season campaign last night.  Columbus Catholic Waterloo won 25-21, 25-19 and edged the Cougars in the third 28-26. Jordan Burrows led Sumner-Fred with 12 kills and Mariah Nuss bagged seven kills.  Sumner Fred begins their postseason next week. The Cougars finish the regular season 10-24.
