The Score Sheet: Friday Night Lights Doomed By Weather

The opening weekend of high school football forced long-lightening delays and a game that never ended..

In the Fab Oldies 1580 and 103.3 Game of the Week, North Butler is 1-0 on the season after downing Nashua-Plainfield 20-0.  Lightening suspended the game with 29 seconds left in the first half. North Butler lead 7-0 off of a Pacen Hendricks 38-yard touchdown run. The game resumed Saturday at 5 and Kane Allison capped a six play 12 yard drive with a 1 yard touchdown run.  Hendricks scored his second rushing touchdown of of the game late in the fourth quarter. Husky quarterback Michael Stille completed 10 of 28 passing for 90 yards and Rhett Lammers snatched two interception for the Bearcats. North Butler hosts Central Springs and Nashua Plainfield hosts Belmond Klemme.

You heard the New Hampton Chickasaws on 95.1 The Bull into the early morning hours of Saturday.  The Chickasaws got in front early of Aplington Parkersburg, put the Chickasaw’s failure to convert PATs, proved to be the difference. Aplington Parkersburg won 13-12. Wyatt Stochl only completed two passes, but he connected with Tristan Sweitzer for a 16 yard touchdown. Stochl also ran for a score.  Sweitzer rushed for 151 yards on 20 carries. The Chickasaws travel to Charles City Friday.

The Turkey Valley Trojans are 1-0 after a 38-13 win over AGWSR.  Dylan Elsbernd rushed for three touchdowns and 117 yards. Seith Huinker ran for a score.  Trojan quarterback Ethan Leibold completed four of five through the air including a six yard touchdown toss to Keegan Balk.  Turkey Valley travels to Gladbrook-Reinbeck on Friday.

Sumner-Fredericksburg walloped Postville Friday night 42-7.  Kelby Olson highlighted the 42-point barrage with a 73 yard dash to pay-dirt.  He ran five times for 133 yards. Quarterback Brandon Meyer threw a pair of touchdowns both to Olson.  Meyer finished six of eight for 161 yards. The Cougars host South Winneshiek on Friday.

And speaking of South Winn, they are 1-0 to start the 2018 season beating MFL Mar Mac 30-10.  A balanced rushing attack and a defense forcing three turnovers for South Winneshiek is all they needed.  Jarron Todd had two touchdowns, Noah Tieskoetter ran for a 55 yard touchdown and Zach Taylor added a five yard touchdown.  South Winneshiek travels to Sumner-Fred this Friday.

North Fayette Valley held strong against Waverly- Shell Rock but didn’t come up with enough at the end, the Tiger-Hawks lost 35-21.  Trey Darnall rushed three times for 143 yards and two touchdowns including a 73 yard burst. Mac Whelan also added the third score for North Fayette Valley.  Quarterback Brooks Hovden completed only two passes and threw an interception. The Tiger-Hawks host Union Community Friday night.
