The Iowa State Baseball Tournament continued yesterday with Class 2A Quarter-Final match-ups. Top seed Iowa City Regina got a 6-1 win over Treynor, Van Meter defeated Alta-Aurelia 4-3, six seed Centerville upset three seed Estherville-Lincoln Central and Wilton beat Denver 3-2. Centerville will take on Wilton and Regina will play against Van Meter in the Semi-Finals on Thursday. The Class 3A Quarter-Finals will be played today at Principal Park in Des Moines. Top seed Davenport Assumption will be up against Bondurant-Farrar, Sioux City-Bishop Heelan will take on Solon, it will be Carlisle against Waverly-Shell Rock and Harlan will face Boone. The Class 4A Quarter-Finals will be played tomorrow.
We now move on to some news from the Iowa Wild hockey team. Tim Army was named the new head coach of the Wild. Army spent six years as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche and also had a head coaching stint at Providence College.
Army replaces Derek Lalonde, who resigned to become an assistant coach with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Lalonde led Iowa to a pair of winning seasons but they failed to make the American Hockey League playoffs.
