951 The Bull Sports Report (7/19)

In a game heard on our sister station 959 KCHA yesterday, the Charles City Comet softball team played in the Class 4A State Tournament in Fort Dodge against Independence in the Consolation Round.  Independence supplied all of the offense in the first four innings and led 8-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth.  The Comets tried to come back and Tayler Schmidt cut the lead in half with a grand slam, but that would be as close as it would get as the final score was 8-4 in favor of the Mustangs.  Liz Fiser had half of the Charles City hits as she went 3-4 and scored a run and Sami Heyer pitched all seven innings and gave up five earned runs on seven hits and struck out nine.  The Comet softball team finishes their 2018 campaign with a Northeast Iowa Conference Championship, a third consecutive State Tournament berth and an overall record of 33-8.

Today’s peek at college football looks at the running back position for the Iowa Hawkeyes.  Toren Young is ready to become the lead running back for the Hawks. Radio Iowa’s Todd Kimm has more.

Young says he looking forward to becoming the top running back.

Young says with the incoming freshman on campus for summer workouts there is added depth at the position.
