New Ordinance Allows New Fire Training Facility Construction To Begin

Charles City, Iowa – Floyd County can be expecting a fire-fighting training facility soon.  Located in Charles City near the old White Farm, the Charles City Council approved a city ordinance that allows for construction permits to be obtained in industrial zones.  Previously the city didn’t have the ability to approve construction because zoning and planning regulations wouldn’t allow it. Planning and zoning still have to sign off on permits.

Charles City Administrator Steve Diers says this is the best location in town and there’s not much risk.

City Councilman Delaine Freesman says this is something the community and the city need.

The facility would be near 13th Avenue, east of E street.  The area is wooded and is surrounded by a fence.  It used to be apart of White Farms.

Chris was born in Webster City and raised in Charles City. As a young kid, he would always be caught singing along to songs on the radio. He says he's good at karaoke but we think otherwise. ;) In his free time, he enjoys beginning new projects at home and hardly ever finishing them. Chris lives in Charles City with his wife Vicki, daughter Brynlee and son Jaxon.
