951 The Bull Sports Report (7/5)

In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull Tuesday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw softball team hosted Osage in a Class 3A Region 5 Quarter-Final.  The Chickasaws built a 6-0 lead after three innings and were able to coast their way to a 7-2 win.  Savannah Anderson, Bailey Knowlton and Natalie Hoey each drove in two runs in the win and Anderson earned the win by pitching the complete game, and giving up two hits and she struck out five.  The New Hampton softball team improves to 23-14 overall this season and will play in the Regional Semi-Finals tomorrow night at Crestwood.

In a couple of games heard on our sister station 959 KCHA on Tuesday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team took on Charles City in a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header.  In the first game, New Hampton led it 5-0 after the top of the third inning and were able to hang on to the 5-3 win.  Josh Fenske and Mason Cleveland each had two hits and two runs scored for the Chickasaws and Noah Fye pitched all seven innings, gave up seven hits and struck out four.  In game two, a seven run first inning for the Comets was too much for New Hampton to overcome as they lost the game 8-5.  Cleveland had two hits and an RBI in the second game and Keegan Kane drove in a pair for the Chickasaws in that second game.  With the split, New Hampton baseball moves their overall record to 24-5 and earned their fourth straight NEIC title with a final conference record of 14-4.  They will be in action again tonight with a non-conference game at Lake Mills.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky softball team was at home for a Class 2A Region 5 game against Belmond-Klemme on Tuesday night.  The Huskies built a 6-1 lead after two innings and were able to coast to a 10-3 victory.  Meghan Wright and Toyia Griffen each had a home run for the Nashua offense and Sydney Hanson and Breanna Hackman each had two RBI.  Wright earned the pitching win as she went all seven innings, gave up one earned run and struck out five.  The Nashua softball team improves to 10-16 overall this season and they will play in the Regional Semi-Finals tomorrow night at Central Springs.

The Turkey Valley Trojan softball team was on the road Tuesday night for a Class 1A Region 3 Quarter-Final against BGM -Brooklyn.  The Trojans were unable to keep pace in the game as they lost by a final score of 10-3.  The Turkey Valley softball team ends their season with an overall record of 13-22.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar softball team hosted MFL-Mar-Mac on Tuesday night for their Class 2A Region 6 Quarter-Final.  The Cougars held a 7-3 lead heading into the top of the seventh innings, but MFL was able to score six runs in the frame to come from behind and win 9-7.  Sumner-Fred softball finishes their 2018 season with an overall record of 19-14.
