The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team was at home last night for a non-conference game against Tripoli. The Huskies used a seven run fourth inning to catapult them to a 10-0 win in five innings. Mason Hyde had a home run and four RBI and Austin Bienemann had three runs batted in for Nashua. Dylan Downing earned the win as he pitched all five innings, gave up two hits and struck out four. The Husky baseball team improves to 10-14 overall this season and they will be in action again tonight at Wapsie Valley.
The Turkey Valley Trojan softball team opened up postseason play last night with a Class 1A Region 3 first round game at Don Bosco. The Trojans started the game hot with three runs in the first inning and were able to keep the lead throughout the game as they walked away with a 5-3 win. The Turkey Valley softball team improves to 13-21 overall this season and they will play in the Regional Quarter-Finals tonight in Gilbertville. They will take on BGM who comes in at 16-8 this season and first pitch will be at 5:30.
The softball postseason gets underway for Classes 2A and 3A tonight. The New Hampton Chickasaw softball team will be at home for a Class 3A Region 5 Quarter-Final against Osage. New Hampton softball is 22-14 overall this season while the Green Devils come in at 13-17. The Husky softball team is 9-16 overall this season while Belmond comes in at 5-20. In their only meeting of the season, Nashua beat Belmond 4-3 back on June 15th. First pitch for this game will be at 7pm.
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar softball team will be at home tonight for their Class 2A Region 6 Quarter-Final against MFL-Mar-Mac. The Cougars come in with an overall record of 19-13 while MFL is 14-16. These two teams played each other last Friday night with Sumner-Fred winning it 8-7. First pitch for this game will be at 5:30.
The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team will wrap-up their Northeast Iowa Conference season tonight with a double-header against Charles City. The Chickasaws are 23-4 overall this season and currently sit atop the NEIC standings with a record of 13-3 while Charles City is 12-10 and 8-8. If New Hampton is able to sweep the Comets, they will earn their fourth conference championship in a row. These games were originally scheduled to be played in Charles City, but due to field conditions, they will now be played at Hertel Field in Waverly.
