The New Hampton Chickasaw girls golf team opened up their Class 2A State Golf Meet yesterday at Lake Panorama Golf Course in Panora. The Chickasaws will go into today’s final round in second place as a team as they shot a first round total of 375. They are currently 14 strokes behind first place Van Meter and three strokes ahead of third place Okoboji. Allison Nuss had the low round individually for New Hampton as she carded an 82 yesterday which puts her in a tie for fifth place. Morgan Nuss is in eighth place right now after her round of 86 yesterday. Emma Ewert had a 98 and Marcy Uglum had a 109 yesterday to round out the scoring for New Hampton. They will finish up the tournament today with 18 more holes. South Winneshiek’s Jaden Schweinfus shot an 82 yesterday at the Class 1A State Meet and she currently sits in fifth place.
In a couple of games heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw softball team was at home taking on Oelwein in a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header. In the first game, the Chickasaws scored two runs in the first, three runs in the second, four runs in the third and three more in the fourth to apply the mercy rule as they won the game 12-0 in four innings. In game two, the offense continued to dominate as they scored thirteen runs in the first five innings with the biggest blow of seven runs in the fifth inning to again win via the mercy rule 13-3 in five innings. The New Hampton softball team is now 4-0 both overall and in conference games and they will play again tomorrow night at Crestwood.
The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team was in Waukon last night for a Northeast Iowa Conference game against the Indians. The Chickasaws scores five runs in the fourth inning which helped them to an 8-3 win. Mason Cleveland picked up the win on the mound as he pitched four and two thirds innings and gave up just one run. The New Hampton baseball team is now 5-1 overall this season and they start the year in the NEIC at 1-0. They will play at home tomorrow night against Turkey Valley for their next game.
The Nashua-Plainfield Husky baseball team was at home last night to take on Eagle Grove. The Huskies scored one run in the first, two in the third and one in the sixth which was plenty as they were able to get the shut out win 4-0. The Nashua baseball team is now 2-3 overall this season and they will play at North Butler tonight.
The Nashua-Plainfield softball team also hosted Eagle Grove last night in non-conference action. The Huskies hit the ball well in a 13-2 win in five innings. Britney Holthaus, Toyia Griffen and Breanna Hackman each had a home run in the win and Sydney Hanson had three hits and three RBI in the win. Rylee Weiss pitched all five innings, gave up two unearned runs on two hits and struck out five. The Nashua softball team is now 2-1 this season and they will play at North Butler tonight.
The Turkey Valley Trojan baseball team was on the road last night taking on Clayton Ridge in an Upper Iowa Conference double header. The Trojans split the pair of games as they won one game 5-0 and lost the other 12-5. Turkey Valley baseball is now 2-4 overall this season and 1-2 in the conference. They will host Charles City tonight.
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar baseball team was swept last night in a North Iowa Cedar League double-header at Hudson. They lost game one 11-1 and then dropped game two 12-2. The Cougars fall to 1-4 overall and 0-4 in the NICL. They will play again Friday night at home against Aplington-Parkersburg.
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar softball team also played a North Iowa Cedar League double-header in Hudson last night. In game one, Hudson broke a tie in the bottom of the seventh to come away with a 9-8 walk-off win. The Cougars would come back to win game two 9-5 to earn the split. Sumner-Fred softball is now 2-4 overall and 1-3 in the NICL. They will play A-P at home tomorrow night.
