The 2018 Iowa State Track and Field Meet came to a close on Saturday at the Blue Oval in Des Moines. The New Hampton Chickasaw girls track team had several events that competed over the weekend. The team of Natalie Hoey, Claire Quirk, Rachel Rinken and Maddi Moorman ran a time of 4 minutes 26 seconds in the Distance Medley and placed 18th overall. The team of Rinken, Bailey Knowlton, Hope McDonald and Quirk ran the 4×400 preliminaries in a time of 4 minutes and 14 seconds, but did not qualify for the finals. Claire Quirk ran her 400 meter hurdle final in a time of 1 minute and 12 seconds which put her in 23rd overall, Marci Uglum cleared four feet nine inches in the high jump which was good enough for a tie for 22nd, and Maddie Usher had a 2 minute 29 second 800 meter run which put her in 18th place. On the boys side for the Chickasaws, Brayden Fisher ran his 400 meter hurdles in a time of 58.37 which garnered a 20th place finish, the team of Shane Burke, Josh Fenske, Alex Schumacher and Nolan Usher ran a 3 minute 45 second Distance Medley and finished in 20th place, and Keegan John finished the meet for New Hampton with a time of 1 minute 57 seconds in the 800 meter run. He placed fourth and earned five points for the Chickasaws in the team race.
The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls and boys track teams also finished out their seasons at State over the weekend. The team of Britney Holthaus, Brianna Bienemann, Kaylee Cerwinski and Chloe Matthews ran the Distance Medley in a time of 4 minutes and 38 seconds which put them in 21st place. The Husky boys Sprint Medley team of Nathan Dettmer, Tristan Brase, Levi Enright and Evan Kalainoff ran a time of one minute and 38 seconds and garnered a 19th place finish. The final event for Nashua was Dayton Hansen in the 1600 meter run. He ran a 4 minute 48 second mile and finished in 21st place.
The Turkey Valley Trojan girls and boys track teams had a busy weekend at the State Meet. Kassidy Reicks threw the discus 88 feet and 8 inches for a 24th place finish. Kyle Langreck ran the 110 meter hurdle preliminary in a time of 15.85, but did not qualify for the final. Luke Anderson had a discus throw of 119 feet 10 inches and placed 21st. The team of Evan Drilling, Mason Goerend, Cale Reicks, and Elliott Dietzenbach ran their Distance Medley in a time of 3 minutes and 44 seconds and got 14th place. The 4×400 team of Reicks, Drilling, Langreck and Dietzenbach had a preliminary time of 3 minutes and 36 seconds, but did not qualify for the final. Jordon Snyder wrapped up the meet for the Trojans with a time of 5 minutes and 11 seconds in the 1600 meter run which placed him 24th.
