951 The Bull Sports Report (2/7)

In a couple of matches heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team hosted the Regional Duals.  The Chickasaws were able to get by Charles City in the first round 54-27 and then knocked off Clear Lake 57-17 to advance to the State Duals.  The New Hampton Turkey Valley wrestling team will have the top-seed at the Class 2A State Duals as they will open-up the tournament against Webster City.  The State Duals will be held at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines a week from today.

The New Hampton Chickasaw girls and boys basketball teams were in Cresco last night for a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header against the Cadets.  In the girls game, the Chickasaws could not keep pace with the top-ranked Cadets as they fell by a final score of 67-29.  The New Hampton girls finish up their regular season with an overall record of 11-10 and their NEIC record ends up at 5-7.  The Chickasaw girls will now focus their attention on the Class 3A Regional Tournament which will start on Saturday night in New Hampton against Union.  In the boys game, New Hampton trailed by five heading into the fourth quarter, but outscored Cresco 23-10 in the frame and were able to walk away with a 59-51 win.  Tristan Sweitzer had 15 points to lead the Chickasaws, Keegan John had 14 and Jake Zwanziger finished with 10 points.  The New Hampton boys up their record to 10-9 and move their NEIC record to 4-7.  They will be back in action tomorrow night at Postville.

The Top of Iowa Conference held its cross-over games last night as the East Division was put up against a team from the West Division based on the conference standings.  The Nashua-Plainfield girls basketball team was in Buffalo Center for a match-up with the Bison.  The Nashua girls fell on the losing end of a 54-33 score.  The Huskies finish their regular season with a record of 2-19 and their next game will be in the Regional Tournament as their opening round game in the Class 2A Tournament will be on Saturday at Denver.

The Nashua-Plainfield boys basketball team was on the road at West Hancock last night.  The Husky boys lost on a last minute layup as they were defeated 66-65.  Dayton Hanson led the Huskies with 20 points as they fall to 9-11 overall this season.  They will finish their regular season tomorrow night at home against Tripoli.

The Turkey Valley Trojan boys basketball team had their final regular season game last night as they hosted Wapsie Valley in non-conference play.  The Trojans lost a close one by the final score of 63-60.  The Turkey Valley boys conclude their regular season with an overall record of 16-5 and will have their first postseason game a week from tomorrow in Postville.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar boys basketball team were in Dike last night for their North Iowa Cedar League game against the Wolverines.  The Cougar boys fell on the short end of a 71-43 score to fall to 3-18 overall this season and they finish the NICL season at 1-17.  Their next game will be in the Class 2A District Tournament as they will play at Oelwein on Monday night.
