The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar girls and boys basketball teams were on the road last night for their North Iowa Cedar League games against Aplington-Parkersburg. In the girls game, Cassidy Pagel had 29 points to lead the Cougars to their eighth win in a row as they defeated the Falcons 60-45. Sumner-Fred’s girls are now 17-2 overall and they improve to 15-2 in the NICL. In the boys game, the Cougars came out on the short end of a 84-46 score as they fall to 3-16 overall and 1-15 in conference games. The Sumner-Fred girls and boys will play again tonight at Jesup.
The New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team will be at home tonight for Senior Night as they will host Oelwein in Northeast Iowa Conference action. The Chickasaw girls come in at 10-9 overall and they are 4-6 in the NEIC while Oelwein’s girls are 6-12 and 2-8. You can tune into this game right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pre-game at about 7:30 and tip-off will be at around 7:45.
The New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team will be in Oelwein tonight for their Northeast Iowa Conference game against the Huskies. The New Hampton boys are 8-9 overall and 2-7 in the NEIC and the Husky boys come in at 3-15 and 0-10. The Varsity game is slated to tip-off at about 7:45.
The Nashua-Plainfield Husky girls and boys basketball teams will head to Sheffield tonight for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against West Fork. The Nashua girls come in with an overall record of 2-17 and they are 1-14 in the conference while the War-Hawk girls come in at 13-6 and 12-3. The Husky boys are 9-9 overall this season and 7-8 in conference games and West Fork’s boys are 14-5 and 11-4. The girls game will be first and get started at about 6:15 and the boys game will follow.
The Turkey Valley Trojan girls and boys basketball teams will host Kee High tonight in an Upper Iowa Conference double-header. The Trojan girls are 12-8 overall this season and they are 9-4 in the conference while the Kee High girls are 18-1 and are a perfect 11-0 in conference play. The Turkey Valley boys are 15-4 overall this season and their conference record is 13-1 while the Kee-Hawks come in at 3-14 and 3-10. The girls game will tip-off at about 6:15 and the boys game will get started at about 7:30.
The Iowa High School Athletic Association will be holding Sectional Wrestling Tournaments all over the state tomorrow. The New Hampton Chickasaw wrestlers will be in front of the home crowd tomorrow as they will host a Class 2A Sectional. You can tune into all of the hold-by-hold action starting with a pre-meet at about 11:40 and the first matches will start at noon. The Nashua-Plainfield grapplers will compete in Clarksville for their Class 1A Sectional and the Sumner-Fredericksburg and South Winneshiek wrestlers will participate in the 1A Sectional hosted by the Cougars in Sumner. The top two wrestlers in each weight class will advance to the District Tournaments next Saturday.
