Ruth Freiberg, 99, of Charles City, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2018 at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City with Pastor Jim Beranek from Trinity United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Rockford, Iowa.

A gathering of family and friends will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home.

Ruth Moore Freiberg, the daughter of Harry Moore and Tilda Hanson Moore was born February 20, 1918 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. When Ruth was a few months old the family moved to a farm south of Rockford, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Rockford High School. She taught rural school #8 Scott Township for three years.

Ruth married Donald Freiberg and to this union two sons were born, Bill and Larry. Ruth loved farm life and all the animals. Her dogs had a special place in her heart, especially her collies and guard dog Sheba. She enjoyed raising poultry. A high light in her life was dancing with Don at the Moose Lodge. The well-being and care of her family were the very most important things in her life. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist, Women of the Moose, and two birthday clubs.

She is survived by her husband, Don; two sons: Bill (Kathy) Freiberg and Larry Freiberg; three grandsons: Mark Freiberg, David (Becky) Freiberg, and Jason (Beth) Freiberg; five great-grandchildren; and a special nephew Calvin Crider of Fort Worth, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, John; and sister, Doris.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a local humane society of choice.
