In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw girls basketball team hosted Waukon in Northeast Iowa Conference play. The Chickasaw girls fell behind 16-7 after the first quarter, but then shut out Waukon 11-0 in the second to take an 18-16 lead into halftime, but that lead was short-lived as the Indians were dominant in the second half and knocked off the Chickasaws by a final score of 61-47. Isabel Leichtman had 18 points to lead the Chickasaws and Maddi Moorman had 11 for New Hampton’s girls who fall to 9-6 overall and 4-4 in the NEIC. The Chickasaw girls will now play again until Saturday at Cedar Falls.
The New Hampton Chickasaw boys basketball team was in Waukon on Friday night for their Northeast Iowa Conference match-up with the Indians. The Chickasaw boys fell behind early in their game as well and were unable to recover as they went down in defeat 74-61. Jake Zwanziger had 29 points for New Hampton and Keegan John added 14. The Chickasaw boys are now 6-8 overall and their conference record drops to 1-6. Their next game will be a week from today against MFL-Mar-Mac.
The Nashua-Plainfield girls and boys basketball teams were in Northwood on Friday night for a Top of Iowa Conference double-header against the Vikings. In the girls game, Nashua ended up on the losing end of a 39-27 score. The Husky girls fall to 1-13 overall and 0-10 in the conference. In the boys game, the Huskies jumped out to a 35-17 lead at halftime and cruised to a 56-33 win. Luke Cerwinske and Dayton Hansen each had 10 points in the win for Nashua who improve to 7-6 overall and 5-5 in league play. Both the Husky girls and boys will be back in action tomorrow night at home against Mason City Newman.
The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar girls and boys basketball teams were in Fairbank on Friday night for their North Iowa Cedar League games against Wapsie Valley. In the girls game, the Cougars jumped out to a 32-9 halftime lead and were able to coast to victory as they won by a final score of 56-24. Krayton Allen had 16 points for the Cougars who improved to 10-2 overall and 9-2 in the NICL. In the boys game, Sumner-Fred remained winless on the season as they lost to Wapsie Valley 71-33. James Stimson had eight points for the Cougars who are now 0-11 overall and 0-10 in the NICL. The Sumner-Fredericksburg girls and boys basketball teams will play their next games tonight at home against Hudson.
