NYE Arrests in Mason City

Mason City, IA – New Year’s Eve was a busy night for police all over Iowa. Two Mason City men were arrested for alcohol related incidents.

43-year-old Natanael Coplin of Mason City was taken into custody after he brought a bottle of Captain Morgan into Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. He had been discharged earlier in the day. It was reported that Coplin was homeless and wind chills that night reached -25. He refused a sobriety test, and has entered a not guilty plea to his public intoxication charge. Coplin’s trial date is set for Jan. 25 in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

The second incident was a drunk driving arrest. 41-year-old John Shannon of Mason City was pulled over in the 900 block of South Pennsylvania Ave. He was driving with a blood alcohol content level of .145 and the officer reports that he had bloodshot eyes. Shannon was charged with operating while intoxicated. His court date is Jan. 22.
