Charles City, IA – The Charles City Police Department responded to three car accidents last Thursday.
The first crash took place at the intersection of Highway 18 and Kelly St. 35-year-old Travis Houck of Mason City was driving when he rear ended 30-year-old Anna Beversdorf who then struck 28-year-old Jordan Apel. Apel had been waiting to turn left when the chain reaction started. This wreck had no injuries but saw a combined $6,500 in damage between the three vehicles.
The second occurrence was a report of a car going into a ditch on Shadow Ave. and then coming out and proceeding into Charles City. The CCPD found him and attempted to pull him over. A chase pursued as the driver sped off. Officers eventually caught up to the car in the 1400 block of South Grand Ave. 45-year-old Brian Wallace of St. Paul, Minnesota, was arrested for an OWI and attempting to elude officers.
The last accident happened at the intersection of Clark St. and North Maint St. 80-year-old Betty Mortimer was parked at a stoplight when she was rear ended by 15-year-old Austin Connerly. Connerly had thought the light was green. He was cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
