951 The Bull Sports Report (11/29)

In a match heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw wrestling team opened up their season at home against Independence.  The Chickasaw grapplers picked up right where they left off last season with a dominant performance.  New Hampton won their match with the Mustangs 63-6.  The Chickasaws did not wrestle against Charles City as originally scheduled, so they begin their season with a 1-0 record and will participate in their first tournament this Friday and Saturday in Independence.

The Nashua-Plainfield girls and boys basketball teams hosted Rockford last night in Top of Iowa Conference play.  In the girls game, Rockford was able to win 52-33 behind 13 points from Amber Reams and Amber Thieman had 11 points for the Warriors.  Nashua’s girls fall to 0-2 overall this season and they are 0-1 in conference play while the Rockford girls improve to 1-1 and 1-0.  In the boys game, Rockford took a three point lead into halftime and built it to seven in the second half and were able to come away with a 73-66 win.  Alex Schriever and Max Rooney each had 17 points for the Warriors to lead all scorers.  The Rockford boys are now 2-0 overall this season and 1-0 in league play while Nashua’s boy start the season at 0-1.  The Husky boys and girls will play again on Friday at home against Northwood-Kensett and the Warrior boys and girls will travel to West Fork on Friday for their next games.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar girls basketball team was in Dike last night for a North Iowa Cedar League match-up against the Wolverines.  These two evenly matched teams went back-and-forth, but in the end it was Dike-New Hartford who came away with the 51-48 win.  The Cougar girls fall to 1-1 overall this season and they are 0-1 in conference play.  They’re next game will be Friday night at home against Wapsie Valley.
