Iowa State picked up its first victory on Thursday. Donovan Jackson had 26 points as the Cyclones beat Appalachian State 104-98 in the opening round of the Puerto Rico Tipoff at Myrtle Beach.
Jackson says it was a good win after opening with two losses.
Nick Weiler-Babb added 23 points and coach Steve Prohm was happy with the pace of play.
Iowa used a 14-0 run midway through the second half to take command in an 85-74 win over Grambling. Freshman forward Jack Nunge (nun-gee) led the Hawkeyes with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Grambling led 59-56 with just under 11 minutes remaining before the Hawkeyes put together their decisive run. Iowa coach Fran McCaffery.
Iowa improves to 3-0.
