New Hampton, IA – Halloween is taking place this weekend, and a couple of events will be taking place this weekend in the area.

New Hampton will be hosting the Halloween Costume Parade this Saturday. People dressed up will be lining up at 10 a.m. in front of the Parks and Rec Office. Jason Speltz, director of New Horizons, says how many people he expects to participate this year.

The Lions Club will donate prizes to those who have the best costume. The parade will start at 10:30 a.m.

After this weekend, the calendar will be turning to the next holidays, Thanksgiving and Christmas. Speltz talks about the transition.

The Holiday Open House will get the season kicked off. A Festival of Trees will be taking place this year in New Hampton to help raise money for nonprofit organizations. These groups will decorate trees and will put them up for sale.

Proceeds from this event will go right back to the organizations who decorated the trees. Entries are still being taken for this event.
