In a match heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball team was at home taking on Oelwein in a Class 3A Region 5 Semi-Final. For the fourth time this season, the Chickasaws were able to win the match-up as they defeated the Huskies three games to one. New Hampton won the first two games as scores went 25-14 and 25-19, Oelwein took game three 25-21 and then the Chickasaws sealed the deal with a 25-14 win in game four. Savannah Anderson had 17 kills to lead the Chickasaws and Rachel Rinken added 16. Lauren Frerichs finished the night with 46 assists, Anderson had 25 digs, Bailey Knowlton had 24 digs and also went 21 of 21 serving with an ace. The Chickasaw volleyball team improves to 29-9 overall this season and they will take on Columbus Catholic in the Regional Final on Monday night at Oelwein.
Iowa State coach Matt Campbell says the best reaction to the Cyclones’ new national ranking is none at all. Off to a 5-2 start and on the heels of a 31-13 victory at Texas Tech the Cyclones are 25th in the latest Associated Press Poll. It is their first national ranking since 2005.
