951 The Bull Sports Report (10/24)

The volleyball postseason continued last night with several area teams participating in the Class 1A and 2A Regional Quarter-Finals.  The Nashua-Plainfield Husky volleyball team was in Calmar last night for a Class 2A Region 6 Quarter-Final against South Winneshiek.  The first two games had to be extended as both teams looked to be evenly matched.  South Winn was able to squeak both of them out by a score of 26-24.  Then the Warriors were able to win the third game 25-18 to take the match three games to none.  Sydney Hansen led the Nashua offense with 11 assists, Britney Holthaus had 33 digs and as a team the Huskies went 65-68 serving with five aces.  Nashua-Plainfield volleyball finishes their 2017 season with a record of 12-20.  The Warriors improve to 22-14 overall and they advance to the Regional Semi-Finals where they will play at Wapsie Valley on Thursday night.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar volleyball team saw their season come to a close last night as they were in a Class 2 A Region 6 Quarter-Final at Wapsie Valley.  The Cougars were beaten three games to one as they lost the first two games 25-20 and 26-24, they won the third game 25-22 and then lost game four 25-23.  Jordan Burrows led the Sumner-Fred offense with 11 kills, Jenna Brandt had 8 kills and 33 assists, and Cassidy and Jenna Pagel also each had 8 kills.  The Cougar volleyball team finishes their season with an overall record of 14-19.

The New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball team will continue their postseason tonight as they will host Oelwein in a Class 3A Region 5 Semi-Final.  New Hampton volleyball is 28-9 while the Huskies come in at 15-24.  The Chickasaws went 3-0 this season against Oelwein all in the last month as they beat them three games to none in Oelwein on September 26th, they beat them two games to none at the Charles City Tournament on September 30th and then won two games to one at the Northeast Iowa Conference Tournament in Cresco on October 14th.  You can tune into this match right here on 951 The Bull tonight starting with a pre-meet at 6:45 and then first serve from New Hampton will be at 7pm.
