In a match heard right here on 951 The Bull last night, the New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball team hosted Waukon in a Class 3A Region 5 Quarter-Final. After squeaking out a 26-24 win in game one, the Chickasaws were able to pick up the pace and won game two 25-15 and then took game three 25-12 to win the match three games to none. Savannah Anderson led the Chickasaws with 13 kills, Maddi Moorman had nine kills and Kerigan Tenge had eight kills. Lauren Frerichs had 40 assists, Bailey Knowlton had 22 digs and as a team, New Hampton went 64-72 serving with seven aces. The Chickasaw volleyball team improves to 28-9 overall this season and will host Oelwein on Tuesday night in the Regional Semi-Final.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union and Iowa High School Athletic Association will be holding State Qualifying girls and boys cross country meets all over the state today. The top three teams and top 15 overall finishers will qualify for the State Meet in Fort Dodge next Saturday. The New Hampton Chickasaw girls and boys cross country teams will compete in a Class 2A meet held in Dike. The meet will take place at the Fox Ridge Golf Course with the girls race set to start at 4pm and the boys race will begin at about 4:30.
The Nashua-Plainfield, Turkey Valley, Sumner-Fredericksburg and South Winneshiek girls and boys cross country teams will race in a Class 1A meet in Eagle Grove tonight. The meet will take place at the Eagle Grove Country Club and begin with the girls race at 4pm with the boys race to follow.
