951 The Bull Sports Report (10/16)

In a game heard right here on 951 The Bull on Friday night, the New Hampton Chickasaw football team was at home taking on Garner-Hayfield Ventura in a Class 2A District 2 game.  The Chickasaws were able to jump ahead early and led it 21-0 in the beginning of the second quarter and were able to coast to a 28-10 victory.  Chickasaw quarterback Keegan John led the Chickasaws as he scored two rushing touchdowns and threw another to Mason Cleveland.  Braydon Fisher finished the night with 140 rushing yards and a touchdown and New Hampton’s defense was able to force two turnovers.  The Chickasaw football team improves to 6-2 overall this season and they are 5-1 in District play.  They will wrap-up their regular season this Friday night at Clear Lake with a chance to earn a District Championship with a win.

The Nashua-Plainfield Husky football team was in Mason City on Friday night for a Class A District 3 contest against the Newman Knights.  The game came down to the wire as Newman attempted a game-winning field goal as time expired, the kick missed and Nashua was able to walk away with the 29-27 win.  Tristen Brase led the Husky offense with 112 rushing yards and two touchdowns, Dayton Hansen had 131 passing yards and threw a touchdown pass to John Krull and Mitchell Malven.  The Nashua defense was also able to force four turnovers in the win.  The Husky football team improves to 6-2 overall this season and they are 5-1 in District play.  They will host West Hancock this Friday night with a chance to clinch a playoff berth.

The Turkey Valley Trojan football team had their way with Clarksville on Friday night in an 8-man District 2 game at home as they beat the Indians 52-14.  Ethan Leibold completed six passes for 189 yards and six touchdowns.  He threw three TD passes to Will Einwalter, two TD passes to Cale Reicks, one to Keegan Balk and one to William Swestka.  The other Trojan touchdown was scored on a three yard run by Breadon Baumler.  The Turkey Valley football team improves to 5-3 overall this season and they up their District record to 2-3.  They will wrap-up their season this Friday will a home game against Janesville.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar football team played a Class 1A District 2 road game at MFL-Mar-Mac on Friday night.  The Cougars were able to pick up a 28-12 victory to improve to 3-5 overall this season and they evened up their District record at 3-3.  They will play their final game this Friday night at home against Lake Mills.

The South Winneshiek Warrior football team was able to make it five wins in a row on Friday night as they got passed Lake Mills at home 44-0.  Hunter Todd threw for 116 yards and had touchdown passes to Brennan Holthaus, Cole Klimesh and Levi Lukes.  Rodney Schwartzhoff was the work horse on the ground as he finished the night with 156 rushing yards and two touchdowns and Braxton Smith also had a rushing score for the Warriors.  South Winn football is now 5-3 overall this season and 5-1 in Class 1A District 2.  They will at Belmond-Klemme this Friday night with a playoff berth on the line.

And finally today, the New Hampton Chickasaw volleyball team was in Cresco on Saturday as they took part in the Northeast Iowa Conference volleyball tournament.  The Chickasaws went 4-2 overall at the tournament as they defeated Decorah, Waukon, Crestwood and Oelwein, but lost to Charles City and Waverly-Shell Rock.  New Hampton will now shift their focus to the Regional Tournament which begins this week.  The Chickasaws will play on Wednesday night in a Class 3A Region 5 Quarter-Final at home against Waukon.
