Charles City, IA – A murder that took place in Charles City back in June is taking yet another turn before the trial even starts. Antoine Williams of Charles City allegedly shot and killed Nathaniel Fleming on June 30.

Williams has so far requested a change in venue. Now, his attorneys say he wants a new jury pool. The Iowa Supreme Court ruled this summer that African American defendants can now more easily challenge the jury pool based on diversity.

In this case’s current jury pool, only one person identifies themselves as an African American. Williams’ attorneys say this is not a fair representation. No ruling on this decision has yet been made, but the prosecutors say they are ready for the trial to start and they think the decision will be thrown out.
