Osage, Iowa – Apparently, there is such a thing as too much knowledge. The Osage School District has been cited by the Iowa Department of Education for starting classes too early.
Before the 2015-2016 school year, schools could apply to start class early, but that law has since been thrown out. Classes this year began on Aug. 22 which is one day before the state allows.
The district says that they have created 90 extra hours for snow days, so this does not change the last day of school for the students. The first day will not count towards the total hours needed each school year. Schools need to complete 1,080 hours yearly.
