The Bull Sports Report (6/21)

The Turkey Valley Trojan baseball team was at home last night for a non-conference game against Oelwein.  The Trojans gave up single runs to the Huskies in the first, second, third and seventh innings, but they were only able to push one run across of their own and lost the game 4-1.  The Trojans are now 7-11 overall this season and they will be back in action tomorrow night at Kee High for double-header.

The Sumner-Fredricksburg Cougar baseball team was trying to get that elusive first win of the season last night as they hosted Waterloo Columbus in North Iowa Cedar League play.  The Cougars held a 2-1 lead after four innings, but the Sailors put a five spot on the board in the top of the fifth and went on to beat Sumner-Fred 7-2.  The Cougars drop to 0-18 overall this season and will look for that first win tonight at Denver.

The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougar softball team was in North Iowa Cedar League play last night at home against Union-Laporte City.  Union scored four runs in the top of the first and the Cougars were unable to climb out of that hole and ended up losing the game by the final score of 7-4.  Sumner-Fred softball falls to 8-13 overall this season and will be in action again tonight.  The Cougars will take on South Winn on the road in a non-conference tilt.

The South Winneshiek Warrior softball team was on the road last night taking on Crestwood in non-conference play.  The Warriors went down 5-1 to fall to 14-10 overall this season.  South Winn has another non-conference game tonight at home against Sumner-Fred.

The South Winneshiek Warrior baseball team split an Upper Iowa Conference double header last night at home against Starmont.  In the first game, the Warriors scored two runs in the second and fourth innings and held Starmont to one three run inning. The Warriors would come away with a 4-3 win.  Levi Lukes had two RBIs for South Winn and Kody Kleve and Alex Holthaus each had two hits.  Mason Elsbernd picked up the win on the mound as he pitched all seven innings, gave up seven hits and struck out nine.  In game two, it was scoreless through three innings, but Starmont scored two in the fourth, four in the fifth and one in the sixth compared to South Winn’s single runs in the fourth and seventh innings which led to Starmont winning 7-2.  The Warriors managed just three hits in the game while Kleve took the loss on the mound.  With the split, South Winn baseball moves to 14-11 overall and will be off until a game on Saturday against Waterloo Columbus.

The New Hampton Chickasaw softball team will be in a Northeast Iowa Conference double-header tonight as they get set to host Waverly-Shell Rock.  The Chickasaws come in at 16-8 overall this season and they are 7-5 in the NEIC while Waverly comes in at 13-11 and 6-4.  You can tune into the first game of this double-header right here on 951 The Bull starting with a pregame at 5:15 and first pitch is scheduled for 5:30.

The New Hampton Chickasaw baseball team will also be in Northeast Iowa Conference play at home tonight as they will welcome in Oelwein.  The top-ranked Chickasaws are 20-1 overall this year and they are a perfect 10-0 in the conference.  Oelwein comes in at 9-11 and 3-5.  This game will also be broadcasted right here on 951 The Bull.  Pregame will start at about 7:15 and first pitch will be at around 7:30.
